Trophy season

It's the end of the school year and lots of things are wrapping up, meaning lots of end of the season events and lots of celebrating.

Andy is getting his Tiger Badge, which I don't quite understand, but I think this means he can move up to being a Wolf scout next year.

He's pretty excited. I wish I could I have talked him into wearing pants that matched even slightly.

This was the Three Piggy Opera, the first grand spring musical. Beyond adorable. He's on the front right in a white shirt. I was able to negotiate better clothes for this one. The teachers told the kids specifically to have their parents pick out the outfits.

Andy got up the nerve to invite his babysitter, Avery, to come with us. He's got a bit of a crush. Margaret had pajama day that day (and every day she's not wearing a gown practically).

End of season wrap up for soccer. I used to think participation trophies were lame until I had kids and realized just how important they are to the kids.

Here's the whole team. We actually have one more game.

Pinewood Derby

This past weekend was the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Whoo, boy. It's easy to see that some kids (and parents) get waaaay into it. It's like Toddlers and Tiaras for boys to a certain extent. Bjorn and Andy did spend a lot of time working on it - nothing major, but it was a good project they did together. Some of these designs were amazing (sadly, no pictures) and some parents were grumbling to each other that there was some cheating going on.

Andy managed to come in 5th or 6th out of six in his pack (den? I can never remember). He didn't cry to throw a fit - we'd prepared him pretty well for it. Some kids were bitter and sad - to be expected when you work hard and it doesn't work out. Now the boys in my house want to build a track so they can practice between now and next year.

Bjorn has also agreed to take on being the leader of this age group. Big props! He's a great guy to do it and there is a cumulative sigh of relief from all the parents.

Cub scouts

Who doesn't love a man in uniform?
Andy has joined Cub Scouts (and I have had to try to remember over and over that it's cub scouts not boy scouts at this age). He's sort of an academic type kid and isn't as interested in team sports just yet so I think it's a good fit for his personality. Bjorn's been a trooper by jumping on the bandwagon despite it not being his first choice, including the whole outdoorsy/camping part that's kind of a requirement.

Yesterday was the first camp out. I got sleeping bags for the guys and borrowed a tent from a neighbor. As you can see in the picture below, it's big enough to sleep eight probably. You could practically in that thing. So the boys trekked off to points a few hours west. started setting up shop and the skies promptly opened up and it rained. And rained. And rained. This is rather hilarious since it hasn't rained longer than a thunderstorm here or there since April.

According to reports, Andy cried and cried (it is his first camp out) while Bjorn struggled to get the tent up during a monsoon. Then Bjorn put them both in the car, said goodbye to the others and went home. Considering it rained several inches last night, complete with thunder and lightening, I'd say it was a good call.
